First Mission

Your first mission: become a Moon observer

A free activity for an adult and their family. You need paper, a pencil, and a safe place to look at the sky. No telescope is needed.

  1. Look: On a day when the Moon is visible, find it together. Never look directly at the Sun or point binoculars or a telescope at it.
  2. Sketch: Draw the shape of the bright part of the Moon. Add the date and time.
  3. Notice: Can you see darker patches? Is the Moon high in the sky or close to the horizon?
  4. Return: Try again on other days. Compare your drawings. If clouds get in the way, try another day.
  5. Ask: What changed? What stayed the same? Write down a question to investigate next.

Workshop challenge

Design a paper rocket on your page. Label where the crew, fuel, and payload would go. Explain one design choice to someone in your family.

Keep your mission yours

No account or purchase is needed. Keep your drawings at home; please do not submit children’s personal information or photos.
